Khanyazwe FlexPower flagship project achieves SIP status
FlexED is proud to announce that after a rigorous process of validation by Infrastructure South Africa, its flagship gas to power project in development, Khanyazwe Flexpower 1, was subsequently approved for registration and with effect from 24 February 2025, elevated to Strategic Integrated Project (SIP) status. By way of brief introduction, the Oil and Gas National Programme (ONGP) forms part of the Energy Strategic Integrated Project Number 20f that was gazetted on 6 December 2022 (under Government Gazette No. 47658) in line with the Infrastructure Development, 2014 (Act No. 23 of 2014) (“IDA”). Such qualifying projects are classified as SIP projects and are required to be managed within the requirements of IDA. Effectively, for KFP 1, the award of SIP status has immediately translated into the benefit from an expedited process in terms of and within the confines of Schedule 2 (section 17(2) of IDA), when it came to its applications for approvals, authorizations, licenses, permissions and exemptions as the case maybe, during its further developmental activities.
